Two Nobel Winners Named XJTU Honorary Professor
On the afternoon of September 21, the 2011 Nobel winner of chemistry Professor Dan Shechtman and 1991 Nobel winner of physiology Professor Erwin Neher visited XJTU and were named as honorary professors. They two delivered speeches and exchanged their ideas with XJTU faculties and students during the interaction session.
Vice President Lu Tianjian met the two Nobel winners in Room 107 of the Science Hall and talked about potential substantial cooperation. President Assistant Yan Hong and the heads of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges attended the meeting. Vice president Lu introduced XJTU's cooperation with universities in German and America in the field of engineering. He also briefed on the international strategies of XJTU. He hoped that the two professors would visit XJTU regularly to have more communication with the teachers and students.Vice President Lu shared a cooperative outlook that included expanding the substantial cooperation, jointly training the students, doing scientific research and constructing international laboratories.
Professor Dan Shechtman and Professor Erwin Neher introduced the structure and organization of their research institutes and shared their ideas on university international development. They pointed out that the two parties could set up cooperative platform for joint training and research on the basis of mutual visits.
After the meeting, Vice President Lu awarded the two professors the Certificate of XJTU Honorary Professor.
Later, Professor Dan Shechtman and Professor Erwin Neher delivered wonderful speeches respectively entitled "Human Ingenuity - A prime Natural Resource" and "Ion Channels: Their Discovery, their Functions and their Roles in Disease".
