On August 18, at the invitation of the vice premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, the first group of 150 teachers and students participating in Moscow State University's summer camp for research and study in China arrived at XJTU. The opening ceremony for the camp was held on the morning of August 19 in room 101 of the Science Hall.

XJTU President Zheng Nanning warmly welcomed the participants on behalf of the "China Activity Center for International Youth (Xi'an)" and XJTU.

In a speech to the gathering, Moscow State University Vice Rector Professor Petr Vrzheshch thanked XJTU for hosting the program. He said that he was looking forward to the coming visit to China's ancient capital with great anticipation, and expressed the hope that the young students participating in the program would return home with a deepened sense of intercultural understanding and enhanced mutual friendship.

During the ceremony, former XJTU party secretary and member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Professor Pan Ji, delivered a warm welcome—in fluent Russian—to the Russian friends who had come from so far away and told them about his own fond memories of his studies in the former Soviet Union 50 years ago.

Following the formalities of the opening ceremonies, students and artists from the two universities took the stage one after another to contribute to a festive Sino-Russian cultural exchange.
